BIOGRAPHY
Rez was born in Chittagong, Bangladesh and from an early age showed a keen interest in literature and arts, always immersing himself in story books. He grew up in London, Bootle and Newcastle-Under-Lyme and after studies in Engineering (Warwick). His passion for the arts and movement therefore never left him and he continued to explore this creative side of him. He started his career doing various roles before working with Tara Arts Theatre as a Manager and then Production Manager that helped him learn more about his creative practice. To date, he has acted in over 300 productions and over 40 community, collaborative and partnerships throughout the UK. He progressed to the TIE company touring and working in education and then worked internationally in New Zealand and Australia. After leaving Tara he has worked with other companies and worked on stage for many years. This has taken him to Europe and the world. Actor on stage and screen, and storyteller he has worked throughout Britain and Eire.
He then established his own Theatre Company Tamarind Theatre based in London and became an Artistic Director and an Executive Producer for Mukul And Ghetto Tigers. Rez is a highly skilled artist and mentor who specialises in voice work also and his creativity and professionalism have allowed him to work in the industry for over 30 years. Notable credits include Londonee (Gurpreet Kaur Bhatti), Romeo & Juliet, GauharJaanDatia Incident, and Mujib the Rebel director Mukul Ahmed (MGT). East is East (Nottingham Playhouse), Oslo by J.T. Taylor, director Barlett Sher for National Theatre, Lincoln Center NYC (Tony Award-winning) Royal National Theatre and at Harold Pinter Theatre (Westend). National and International Tours of The Kiterunner (adapted by Matthew Spangler from the book by Khaled Hosseni) for Martin Dodd & UK Productions; directed by Giles Croft.Films include The Infiltrator (with Bryan Cranston) directed by Brad Furman. UnintentionHell was written and directed by B Bahi for inZanHass Productions. Winner of Best Actor Tagore Film Festival. Banglatown (iMotion Films) writer & director Dishad Husain launches selection for Raindance Film Festival 2022; winner of best film Nottingham International Film Festival 2023.
Rez also has worked in the prestigious Theatre Olympics in Delhi India and Kolkata with Romeo & Juliet (MGT). He loves Shakespeare and poetry and has taught in schools and colleges UK and abroad. He has worked with the community in east London, Midlands and Croydon. He has partnered with numerous story projects, education and other projects in Cranford College, Hampton Court Palace, Tower of London, Museum of London and Docklands and London Borough of Tower Hamlets where he is an official supplier of drama and arts for the schools. He is the artistic director of Tamarind Theatre Company and recently wrote and directed The Legend of the Black Lotus, and The Two-Headed Bird which was also played at Bloomsbury Festival and All Points East Festival. His community and children productions are critically acclaimed successes playing to over 1200 audiences from 10 schools for Season of Bangla Drama 2022 & 2023.
He has also presented productions for the Oxford Wilderness Festival, WOMAD and many theatres, and venues partnering with many groups and organisations throughout the UK and abroad. This has given him a sound grounding of industry practice and inside know-how of what is required for new actors and artists to gain the right training, expertise and focus to succeed in their career paths. Bloomsbury Festival (The Rebel, Beyond the Rebel Nazrul Islam). For 3 years he has partnered with Maya Productions to teach Anglo-Indian and other groups to create their own stories and productions in Stanley Arts (Croydon), and exhibition launch at the Museum of Croydon. Also supported Migration Festivals in Sheffield, with groups from London, Sheffield and Bradford.
